European Indoor Championships

The first of three major Masters Athletics events to be held in Spain this year was the European Indoor Championships in Madrid from the 19th – 24th March. Team GB secured 79 Gold, 60 Silver and 49 Bronze medals.

Athletes from Northern Masters AC contributed to this success with a World Record from Wendy Laing in the High Jump and the following medallists:

Gold

M35 Rick Beardsell – 400m, 4 x200m

M45 Mike Coogan – 200m

M65 Guy Dirkin – Discus, Weight Throw, Hammer

W55 Wendy Laing – High Jump World Record 1.55m

W65 Caroline Marler – 400m, 4 x 200M

Silver

M45 Mike Coogan – 4 x 200m

M50 Mark Johnson – Pole Vault Club Record 4.10m

M50 Ian Richards – 3000m track walk, 5 km road walk

M75 John Watts – Discus

Bronze

M50 John Nicholls – Shot Put

M50 Gary Clare – 4 x 200m

W40 Louise Rudd – 3000m

W45 Clare Constable – 800m

W55 Wendy Laing – Long Jump

W65 Caroline Marler – 200m

Many other NMAC athletes were involved including myself in the M45 Pentathlon – no medal I am afraid but a couple of PB’s and an absolutely amazing experience!
