International selection

British and Irish Masters Cross Country International

Dear Northern Masters members, are you considering sending in an application to EAMA for selection ?

At present NMAC have NO applications from any runner for selection. This is disappointing as NMAC always, have not only a lot of applications but, provide a great many of each age group team.

If you are waiting till the Inter Area XC Challenge you may find that you could miss the application cut off date which is Wednesday October 3rd. You may be waiting to include your time for the event before sending in your application. Do not worry as the results will be available for the selectors to view at the selection meeting.

Your NMAC selector, Sue Cordingley, is on holiday the week before the selection meeting and is only returning the day before the selection meeting. Last minute entries may not have the same amount of scrutiny as in previous years. If you send yours in early she will have time to familiarise herself with your details and have a much better idea how you relate to all the other applications in your age group.

Could runners in the W45/M45 age groups please send Sue your details in an email to suebecconsall@btinternet.com as well as a paper copy as EAMA are trialling email applications with a view of changing to this form of application in the future if it is easy to apply. All the other age groups send in paper copies as in previous years

We will do our best to represent you in the selection process for England.

We look forward to your application and wish you the best of luck in your quest to be selected to represent England in the Cross Country International.

Yours in Sport,

Philip Lee, Acting Chair NMAC

BRITISH MASTERS TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS – BIRMINGHAM

30-year-old club record tumbled this weekend with Steve Peters breaking the M65 record over 100m. In total there were nine new club records (CR) set at this year’s BMAF Track & Field Championships. Steve Peters broke the M65 100m record which had stood for 30 years.

Congratulations to all athletes that competed over the weekend, with some using it as final preparation for the World Championships in the coming weeks, although the weather didn’t help much in acclimatising to the heat expected in Spain

Club Records Announcement

Having spent the last 12 months bringing the club records up to date, can I thank everyone for their input.

The criteria for a record is that you have to be a member of Northern Masters at the time you achieve your time/distance.
With effect from 1st October we will be locking down all the historic records and will only update with new records achieved after the 1st October. In order to do this can I ask all members to please check the ‘Club Records’ on our website and if you believe you have broken a record to inform David Flitcroft so that we finally have them completed and accurate.

Moving forward, Richard Hayes has offered to take on keeping the records up to date and will take over from October this year.

Below is a provisional list of Mile Track Record going back to 2006, if you have a faster time then can you let me know as I would like to add it to the record book in the New Year

East Coast Meridian 10 mile

This photo is from The East Coast Meridian 10 mile race. My young cousin Zac Mellard sacrificed his own race to run with me for my age category AT record attempt at Patrington on the 20/05/18. Thanks to Zac’s encouragement it was a success with a time of 70.53.
On the 23/06/18 I ran my first ever 3,000 metres at the Sheffield Masters Grand Prix. In fact, apart from a 1 mile attempt at Nottingham several years ago, it was my only run on a track since my school days. I came late to competitive running, encouraged by one of my sons when I retired and then my local sports shop owner ex– International Julian Moorehouse.

I was last in the multi-category race and lapped by the winner but I was delighted to find my time was a Masters UK record.
I’m looking forward to meeting Northern Masters colleagues on the 25th for the 5K event.
Kind regards
Vic

North Downs 30Km Trail Race – BMAF Championships 2018

David Gill from Warrington AC travelled down to Kent on Saturday 23rd June to compete in the British Masters longest trail race on the calendar the following day. Having won the BMAF 10-mile road champs in Rhyl early in the year, all his training was in preparation for this his latest challenge. Following on from last years Gold and silver the year before David was in high spirits for more success.

Classified as one of the toughest races in the U.K and is 30k long, mainly run over hilly Terrain covering farmland, fields & woodland. The weather was extremely hot which made conditions even harder. The race itself was well marshalled and extremely well organised.
Despite the heat David managed to run 9 minutes faster than the previous year to win both the British Masters M60 Title & the Open Race M60 title in a time of 2.23.07.
