ARTHUR WALSHAM
Arthur Walsham, a former Chair and President of NMAC, passed away at the beginning of the year at 93 years old. Arthur had been a formidable runner during his life and had gained four masters titles during the time he was competing. He was still active doing park runs well into his 90’s. Arthur was even featured on BBC Breakfast recently about his participating in park runs as he had done over 400. His passing was also mentioned on BBC North West Tonight.
I first met Arthur when I was BMAF Cross Country secretary and NMAC had offered to put on the 2000 Millennium XC Championships at Grimsby when he was Chair of NMAC. We had several meetings at Grimsby, which involved a journey for both of us, to plan the course and work out the finer details of the event. In all my meetings with Arthur and Derek Howarth, and correspondence regarding the event, I found Arthur to be an extremely knowledgeable and agreeable person to work with who always had the concerns of the runners at heart.
NMAC send their condolences to the family and friends of Arthur at this sad time.
