    New AGM Announcement

    2021 Northern Masters Athletic Club Annual General Meeting The AGM of NMAC will now be held on Sunday 21st November at 4 pm by Video link. .Details of how to register will be published later on the Website or by social media. You can register after 14th November in order to obtain the link. NMAC are still requiring a Treasurer and a Membership secretary. If you are interested in any of these positions or would like more information about what the position involves please contact Jason Newell or the Chair (01772 929366) for further details. Without these two important posts being filled then the future of the club may be in doubt. We have over 400 members, there must be someone out there who has the experience to fill either of these important posts. You will be given assistance and advice to carry out your roles while you gain experience. As memberships are due to be renewed from January next year, if we have no one filling the roles it could be that you are unable to enter NMAC or BMAF events as you are no longer recognised by Open Track as being a member of either of these two…

    AGM Notification

    Notice is hereby given of Northern Masters Athletic Club’s Annual General Meeting which will be held at Bury Athletics track on Sunday 17th October 2021. The AGM will commence at 14:00 during the NMAC Track and Field Championships. The meeting will be to receive reports from the various sections of the committee, to conduct any business that is required and to elect a committee to serve for the following term of office. There are several vacancies on the committee, most notably for a Treasurer and a Welfare Office as well as committee members. Should you wish to apply to stand for a committee post please send your details to the secretary along with the post you are applying to fill.

    NMAC Record Breakers

    What an exciting month, with so many athletes peaking the fitness for the BMAF champs at Derby. Just by being able to compete is an achievement and you should be happy and well satisfied with your own results. Give yourself a deserve pat on the back and for representing NMAC in all competitions The best of many records broken this month goes to the following athletes. John Barratt broke the Triple Jump M60 record that had stood since 1987 (George Leete) by leaping 10.20 metres. Bill Gentleman M80 hurled the Hammer nearly 8 metres further than the previous record to 27.47 metres Anita Saunders improved the F50 Long Jump by 1cm to 4.48 which had stood since 2013.     England Athletics Masters Inter Area Outdoor Challenge

    NMAC sent two teams to compete in the EMAA Inter Area Track and Field at Nuneaton on Sunday 18th July. Opposition came from other EMAA clubs as well as International teams from Scotland and Wales. The Women and Men’s teams both finished Third in their groups which helped NMAC to be third team overall, a magnificent performance as they were only 4 points off second place in the Women’s event and 5 points from second place overall. There were many brilliant individual performances but, as with all team events, everyone contributed to the overall success. This included athletes who did numerous events and others who participated in an event in which they were unfamiliar with, in order to have a scorer in that event and to gain as many points as they could for the team. Some athletes ran in a lower age group to ensure that as many places were filled as possible. You might be able to spot those athletes who made that extra effort as you look through the results. To all team members WELL DONE. For many of the athletes this was actually the first competition of the pandemic, especially those who competed in the field…

    NMAC 5000m Track Champs

    On Wednesday evening 35 athletes competed in our first Championship event since lockdown. Fantastic organisation by Saul and the team at East Cheshire Harriers and officials made for a great evening of racing with some fantastic performances! Thank you to all who took part, organised, supported and officiated at the event!! Results of NMAC 5000m v.2 Here is the chairman Philip Lee’s report: The 5,000m Championship was the first NMAC event of the current season and came after a long shut down because of the pandemic. 35 members took part in the event at the East Cheshire track on a warm evening in July. The event was split into 3 races by age groups and started with the younger men and all the women. Lee Athersmith put in a good performance and finished the 12 and a half laps just under 17 minutes to pick up the M35 gold medal. Robert White was next home to take the M45 gold medal followed by the M40 gold medal winner and third overall, James Scott-Buccleuch. Jenny Hales won the women’s race and the W55 gold medal. Gold medals also went to Rebecca Mills W40 and Linda Bowen W45. In the second race…

    Presidents Trophy Report

    As Honorary President I purchased a trophy last year in memory of Faye Holden, a NMAC W35 athlete who sadly died not so long ago. Faye was a terrific NMAC member, who at The Inter Area would do any event to help out and also assisted with managing the team, without being asked. The idea was for it to be awarded after each Inter Area meeting to someone who showed similar spirit and willingness to go the extra mile for the team on the day. Last year we didn’t have an Inter Area, so I awarded it to John Wright for his outstanding performances in the year that had passed. At Nuneaton on July 18th 2021 we had a terrific team effort, made initially possible by two hard working captains who very nearly got every event covered, which was amazing. We achieved 3rd , nearly getting second despite our members having to travel far and the clash with The  Grand Prix at Sheffield.     In Memory of Ron Hill 25/09/1938 – 23/05/2021

    NMAC are saddened to announce the passing of their member, Ron Hill, who passed away on in May 2021. Much has been written about the success that Ron achieved in athletics in the main media and how he had  revolutionized how athletics was thought about in his time. Much of what runners do today was instigated by Ron Hill, such as carbon loading and sports clothing. It is taken for granted today but when introduced was revolutionary in its day. The word Legend is often an over used word in context of today’s sporting stars but Ron was definitely a legend for his exploits as a runner. What is also legendary about Ron is his dedication to running as he ran every day from 20 /12/1964 to 31/01/2017, even when he was injured!! For some of our members, of a more advanced age group, they may have memories of racing against Ron. One of the often told stories regarding Ron is how after a race, either on the road or over the country, he would open up the boot of his car and sell his clothing.     Urgently Required

    NMAC urgently requires someone to take over as Membership Secretary. This is an important post as the membership secretary has to keep the membership up to date and inform members when their membership fee needs to be paid. The post holder will work very closely with BMAF Services and Open Track in keeping the membership up to date. As Open track is in the process of changing and updating their system, at present, it would be advantageous to have the membership secretary in place as this is going on so that they can learn on the job.     Welcome to Northern Masters AC

    The club was founded in 1968 as Northern Veterans as one of the first within the burgeoning veteran athletics movement, and several founder members went on to to establish the British and World Veteran organisations in 1975/77. Northern Masters is an Area Club of the British Masters Athletic Federation (BMAF) and England Athletics Masters Association (EAMA) and covers the region of Cheshire, Cumbria, north Derbyshire, Lancashire, Lincolnshire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside, and Yorkshire.

    The club provides friendly runs and competition over road, trail, cross country and track and field athletics for those over the age of 35. You are welcome to come along as a guest to any Monthly Run or Track & Field League meeting; club championships are reserved for fully paid-up members with guests accepted but ineligible for medals. The club offers First Claim, Second Claim and social membership, and is affiliated to England Athletics, BMAF and EAMA. A membership form and joining instructions are contained on the membership page on this site. As a member you will receive a quarterly club newsletter and a regular magazine from British Masters each containing news, articles and details of forthcoming fixtures.
