A Message from The Committee

Dear NMAC members,

The committee of NMAC wishes you well and hopes you are keeping safe and healthy during these unusual times that we are experiencing. Just as you are having to adapt your life to reflect the needs of the situation so we as a committee are also having to change how we conduct business on your behalf. For our scheduled meeting in April we did it by video conferencing as no doubt many of you are having to do on a daily basis.

The main focus of the meeting was planning for future events as no one is sure when restrictions will be lifted and to what extent. As a club we are guided by the advice from the Government, UK Athletics and England Athletics. Even though it may appear that life is back to normal, if UKA and EA do not give us the go ahead to begin, then we would be in dereliction of our duty of care to our members to commence sporting activities.

The Track and Field Championships were scheduled for June 14th. With no sign of a cessation of the lockdown in sight and remembering that many of you may need time to get back to physical fitness, especially field athletes for whom training is more of a problem than runners, as well as many of our members falling into the category highlighted by the government of over 70, it was felt best to cancel the T&F Championships. However we are looking at the possibility of holding them later in the year. Please look out for further information.
We are hoping to run the 5K Championships on July 1st at the East Cheshire track. We think it may be too early for an event but have kept it on the calendar in case there is a relaxation of restrictions.

Hopefully by September we should have a much better idea of how the country and sport is faring.

For those of you who may not be a track runner we are hoping to have our 10K Road Championships on September 13th again at Spenborough. Again it will all depend on being given clearance by the three ruling authorities.

We have the 10,000m Track Championships at East Cheshire track on October 4th. We will also be holding the club AGM after the event and hope that as many of you as can will attend, even if not competing in the event.

On November 29th we are hoping to run our 5K Road Championships at a venue to be decided but we are looking at using the University of Leeds circuit. Hopefully by then the country may be back to a more normal life.

We hope that the above events can go ahead as planned and that you can prepare yourselves in the anticipation of finally competing in the sport that you enjoy. By putting the events on later in the year we hope that they will stand a much better chance of going ahead. All details will be on the website or on the Facebook page, as well as entry information, so please check regularly. We will also try and send out the newsletter to those who have requested a paper copy but we have had problems in getting it printed as the printer’s works have been closed.
As a committee we wish you well and hope that you continue to stay safe and healthy and look forward to seeing you in the future at the various events that have been planned.

On behalf of the NMAC committee,
Philip Lee
Chair NMAC
