NMAC Newsletter – Feb 26
It may be cold, wet & windy outside, but 2026 has already served up several noteworthy
performance from NMAC athletes.
At the back end of last year Tony O’Brien (M55) set an indoor Mile World Record in an super-
fast 4mins 38s in Dublin – just incredible Tony, well done!
The British Indoor Pentathlon event witnessed three new British Champions from NMAC.
➢ Tony Bowman (M90) set British and NMAC records in the Pentathlon, Long Jump,
60m hurdles and 1000m!
➢ Nia Rutter won the W40 event, setting a new club record, with 3591 points and
added a NMAC W40 Shot Put record of 11.18m.
➢ While Jo Rowland’s (W35) form continues, breaking British Indoor Pentathlon record
by a huge margin from 3881 points to 4130, and adding additional NMAC records in
the process. Jo has also been selected for the England Senior women team
competing in Sweden.
And congratulation setting new NMAC records:
➢ Colin Hayton (M65) Cleared 2m 90 in the Pole Vault at EIS Run Jump Throw meeting.
➢ Kerrie Buckley (W45) in the shotput with a huge 10.69m throw.
Well done to all 30 NMAC athletes who braved the harsh northern weather on 10th Jan for
the NMAC XC Champs. Full results here
With a few of the committee changes we are still compiling the results from the 2025 Road
Race Champs, so will come back to you shorty.
Congratulations on these inspiring performances – what great athletes we have at the club!
A new year often brings refreshed optimism and goal setting. To help you plan, the T&F
calendar is starting to take shape. Here are some events to look forward to:
Inter-Area Indoor Champs: 14th March. Please register your interest to represent the club
asap. The Women’s team will be led by Jo Roland and while John Twiddle has offered to
assist the men’s team we are still looking for a permanent men’s team captain.
NMAC events:
• T&F Champs: Trafford on 26th July @10.30am.
• 10000m Champs : Ellesmere Port 11th April at a WCAC event (1 mile & 3000m also on
that day, but are not NMAC champs)
• We also hope to run a NMAC 5000m track & 5k road champs, details to follow.
• NMAC athletes are also entered in to the popular Mid Lancs League with meetings :
18th April (Blackpool), 17th May (Lancaster), 4th July (Blackburn), 25th July (Bury),
15th August (location TBC), 29th August (location TBC).
o Further details will be sent out on how to enter Mid-Lancs at the beginning of
March for these meetings both by email and on the website.
o We also need to provide officials for the Mid-Lancs events, thanks to those
who have come forward, but we still need more – your help is appreciated!
Note that the BMAF T&F champs moved dates from July to 11-13 Sep.A reminder that we have all sorts of club kit for sale on the website, including beanies to
keep you warm and new NMAC hydration vests for the longer distances.
Whether you are competing, training, recovering from injury or making a fresh start, the
committee wish you all the best for 2026 and look forward to seeing you at some of the events.
