NMAC JULY Newsletter
Here we are halfway through the year and getting nearer to the most important event on the calendar. Yes that is correct, the NMAC AGM in September. I don’t know what you were thinking about but it cannot be as important.
July is a busy month for our T&F athletes who participate in the Mid Lancs T&F league as they have two meetings in July. The first at the track in Bury on Saturday 5th July and then again at Bury on Saturday 26th July. Should you wish to compete please let Carol Holt know. At present the women’s team are in Second Place and the men are currently Eight in their leagues.
Also there will be a Sprint Hurdle Championship at Sheffield on Wednesday 2nd July during the Run, Jump and Throw meeting.
My long time school friend was a very good 800m runner in the 70’s during the time of Ovett and Coe and was ranked in the top 5 at the time. When we used to go home in the holidays he would do his trainging round the speedway track which happened to be 400m in length. I used to time him as I was never good enough to run with him. One day he was doing 8×400 in 60 seconds. His first 3 efforts were way outside the time and it was obvious that it was affecting how he felt. On the fourth attempt I forgot to start the watch until he had gone a short distance. I started and stopped it and it showed 60 secs. The effect was immediate in his demeanour and the rest of the session was completed exactly on time. I never told him my mistake and as he is not a member of NMAC he will never know. However the moral of the story is quite simply…. don’t let me near a stop watch.
NMAC are working with Darren Scott to set up the T&F Championships on August 10th at Trafford for you. It is just a case of ensuring that there is a full compliment of officials to ensure that the meeting is able to go ahead and run smoothly. Keep looking on the website for details and once everything is finalised you will also be informed by Facebook, etc.
Also in August NMAC are hosting the EMAA T&F challenge at York on August 17th. NMAC are hoping to put out a team strong enough to win this time. Further details will again be on the website or social media so keep looking.
Many of you will know our Treasurer/membership secretary and track Team Manager, Carol Holt , as a very good 200m and 400m runner. Carol wanted to run a marathon and recently competed in the Edinburgh Marathon and successfully finished it while raising a magnificent sum, over £1000, in aid of cancer. For someone to go from doing one lap of the track to the equivalent of over 100 it is quite an achievement and one of which she should be extremely proud. Especially as she has not got the years of distance running in her legs which most runners will have who prefer the longer distances.
Remember that the Postal Marathon and Half Marathon competitions are currently running from April 1st 2025 to March 31st 2026. Details of rules and what to do to enter will be on the webpage.
What ever distance you do NMAC hopes that you do it to the best of your ability and that you achieve what you set out to do.
Keep on Running, Jumping and Throwing
