NMAC at World Masters Championships in Gothenburg August 2024

At least 25 NMAC members competed at the World Masters Championships in Gothenburg. Below are some results and photos. I am sure to have missed some people so please tell me and I can add to this report.

There were 8000+ athletes entered from 110 countries (5807 from 41 European countries).

11 World records and 25 European records were  set.

The stand out star from NMAC was John Wright who incredibly won the W65 100m,200 and 400m and gained another gold in the 4x400m relay. His speedy times were 12.43 which equalled Steve Peters’ British record, 25.61 and 56.22 ( a NMAC record by a big margin)

Another sprint king was Mike Coogan who won the M50 200m in a NMAC record of 23.04

James Taylor M40 won the Weights Pentathlon with a NMAC record of 3813 points

Our superstar W35 Heptathlete Nia Rutter won a brilliant silver medal with 4624 points

Dot Kesterton came 3rd in the W70 10k and 6th in the W70 Cross Country

Steve Watmough M60 came 3rd in Half marathon and got a team silver

Relay medals were gained by many members:

Steve Taylor joined John Wright in the M65 4x400m and they won gold.

Steve also came 8th in the 800m in 2:35.36 and 10th in the 1500m in 5:17.62

Naana Adusei and Carol Holt won gold medals in thW45 4x100m relay

Naana also came 7th in the W45 200m final in 27.33 and reached the semis of the 100m 13.36

Carol also won a bronze in the 4x400m and got to the semis of the 200m in a season’s best of 27.45

Caroline Marler won a gold in the W70 4x100m relay, which was run in a British record

She also came 5th in the shot put ,

5th in the heptathlon and 10th in the javelin

Julie Hicken won a silver in the W60 4x100m relay , got to the semis of the 200m, equalling her NMAC record of 30.51 and to the semis of the 100m (14.99)

 

Versatile Steve Linsell came 4th in the M60 High jump with 1.55 , was 11th in the Weight Pentathlon (3053 a personal best) and 22nd in the weight with 13.69.

Rick Beardsell, getting back to form but with injury issues was 4th in M40 400m (51.96 in the heat)

Tony O’Brien had great success with the athletes he coaches and gained a 5th place in the M50 1500m final in 4:15.40Tony on the left

 

Hazel Barker came 7th in W65 shot put with 8.00m, 10th in Discus with 20.50 and 11th in the Weight Pentathlon with 2368 points

Charles Ryder was 7th in the M75 100m final in a season’s best of 15.09

Tom Grantham was 7th in the 400m hurdles final in 58.82, reached the 200m semis (24.91) and in the 400m came 2nd in 53.92 but couldn’t stay to run the final.

Chris Ireland came 10th in the M60 2000m steeplechase in 7:50.70

Colin Spivey 89  came 11th in the M85 5000m in 30:40.23 never have run in a Masters track competition before.

Jed Turner was 5th in his M60 800m heat in 2:24.05

Rick Cordwell M45 completed the Decathlon in 22nd position with a season’s best of 4400 points

Richard Mather M40 ran the 200m (in 25.22) and the  400m

Nick Johnston-Davis Ran in the M50100m (12.68) and the 200m (25.3)

Kevin Dillon and Wendy Doxey competed in the Cross Country and the 10k

Malcolm McPhail ran in the M55 200m (26.80)

Unfortunately multi World Champion Steve Peters M70 was injured in the 100m semis and couldn’t continue running but did continue in his Anti-Doping Official capacity.
