NMAC athletes at European Masters Championships September 2023 Pescara Italy

We had many NMAC members competing in Pescara , Italy.

Below are some of the performances we have spotted. If you aren’t mentioned, please contact us.

There will be a report on our website in a while when it can be put on.

Of the many great performances we will start with Nia Rutter, W35 multi eventer, whose plane was late so she missed her first event the javelin where she could have medalled. She made up for it though!

1st Heptathlon  4466 points ( 2nd position got 3057points) which included P.B. in javelin, season’s best in long jump and NMAC equalling record in the HIgh Jump

1st Shot 11.99m

2nd High Jump again 1.60m equalling Wendy Laing’s NMAC record set in 2001

2nd Triple Jump 11.24m, breaking the NMAC record.

4th 100m hurdles 15.33 breaking Wendy Laing’s 2000 record

6th Long Jump 4.84m

Next let’s mention Steve Peters M70 sprinter, who time after time wins World and European medals. He went into this Championship with a damaged Achilles but still gained two gold medals such is his supremacy.

1st 100m. 12.96 a NMAC, British and European record.

1st 200m. 26.65 in the heats, 26.94 in the final where he severely damaged his Achilles further. Broke Tony Bowman’s NMAC 2007 record.

Another fantastic sprint result came from Hayley Mills a W35 newcomer to Masters Athletics.

1st 100m 12.03,missing the NMAC record by .01!

1st 200m 24.34, easily beating the NMAC record

1st 4x100m relay

Another super fast sprinter was Mike Coogan M50

1st 200m. 23.28 , beating his own NMAC record.

Another winning newcomer was M35 David Proctor, who had earlier in the season, broken NMAC records for 800m,1500m and 1mile

What an amazing athlete is Victor Shirley, M80 middle distance runner

Vic had a very busy and successful Championships.

1st 800m 3:05.00,  beating Rod Mills’ NMAC and British 2016 record by about 3 secs.

2nd 1500m 6:21.67

2nd 5000m 23:31.95 Beat the NMAC record by 4 minutes!

1st M75 (dropped down an age group) mixed relay

3rd M75( dropped down an age group) 4×400 relay

James Taylor M40 did a fantastic Weights Pentathlon. Won it  and broke the NMAC record by nearly 1000 points with 3705 points

4th out of 23  Weights Pentathlon 3654 points

Steve Linsell, M55 holder of 3 age group British high jump records, getting back to jumping after a long injury

Many people who didn’t get individual medals, had the chance in relays.

Carol Holt, W45 our Membership Secretary, Treasurer and Inter Area Captain ran well in her 200m races, reaching the semi finals and running 27.98, coming 11th out of 35 runners. Then,

Wendy Andrews W 50, reached semis of the 200m, running a W50 pb of 30.24

Steve Taylor M65 reached two high standard finals

6th 1500m 5:03.22

9th 800m 2:30.15

Good performances from regulars Jed Turner ( 3rd in M60 800m heat 2:22.51), Chris Ireland (19:43.56 in M60 5000m), Steve Doxey ( 20:55.77 in M60 5000m), Tom Grantham (24.73 in M40 200m semi final).

Sharon Hutchings was really busy competing in Shot Put, Weight Throw, Javelin , Discus, Hammer and the Weights Pentathlon!

Geoff Beattie , relishing his track running nowadays did a p.b. in the M70 800m (3:20.58).

Hazel Barker did a season’s best in the discus (22.26m) and  recorded 2389 points in the Weights Pentathlon.
