August Newsletter
The children are on their summer holidays and we, in the North West, have only just got temperatures to climb above average. We are nearer the start of next year than the start of this year. In fact there are only about 147 training days to Christmas. Want a useful present for Xmas then take a look at the NMAC clothing on the website.
NMAC would like to apologise for the length of time that it has taken to get the T&F results published. This was due to there being a problem with a couple of the entries which had been put into the wrong age groups. As they were medal winners it meant that everything had to be scrutinised again until the problem was eventually found. Hopefully by the time you read this it will all be sorted.
NMAC are working towards having results of their Championships posted on their website. This will make it easier for the members to get the information they are looking for. NMAC will still publish results on Open Track and Power of 10 but NMAC results will be on the NMAC website.
Have you looked at the website lately? There are many notices advertising races that members can enter.
The EMAA Inter Area T&F Challenge on September 7th at Corby is an important one as members are required to fill various events and age groups. If you are interested in taking part please contact the Team Manager, Paul Barlow ( [email protected]) with your details. Details are on the website. NMAC have done well in previous years and would like to continue the trend and even improve on previous positions.
For those of you who perhaps just want some local competition, there is a track meeting at East Cheshire Track at Ashton under Lyne on the 4th September. A previous attempt to run one had to be cancelled due to lack of officials. If you are an official and would like to help then why don’t you give them a call, I am sure they would appreciate it.
Some of our members may be travelling to Gothenburg for the World Masters in August. Many of our members have done well in the past. Here’s hoping that they all put in performances of which they can be proud of.
You may remember that the Marathon and Half Marathon Championships are being run as a postal competition. Two events which you may like to consider running in are the BMAF Half Marathon which is in Dumfries and Galloway and the BMAF Marathon which is at Chester in October. Both events are not too far from our area. If you are interested then further details are on the NMAC and BMAF websites.
I was sorting out some boxes and came across some Northern Masters magazines. They contained lots of information regarding the club events, entry forms and results and were printed quarterly. It was all co-ordinated by Ian Vaughan-Hodkinson, who did a magnificent job, until the cost of printing and sending them out became expensive. So it was replaced by an electronic newsletter which is what I am doing now.
I also found a 2015 copy of Masters Athletics, which informed us all of the wider aspects of masters athletics in the UK and the rest of the world. What interested me as I flicked through it was the full size (A4) colour page of a photo of Darren Scott celebrating being European champion and World Record Holder. This is the same Darren who does such a brilliant job for NMAC by organising their T&F championships. He clocked 22.52 in the M45 200m to set a World Record.
It is so nice to know that I have met a World Record Holder. I am also in the “envious” position of knowing an Olympian. Our friends son, whom I have know since he was a baby, has been picked to represent GB and NI hockey in Paris. Having witnessed his efforts over the year he has finally achieved his goal.
No matter which sport you participate in, you only get out what you put in. It is always satisfying if you can leave everything on the track and not come away thinking you could have done more.
Right that is all I can be bothered to write. Keep fit.
